Grab a fresh cup of coffee and pull up a chair.
We live in a world that loves "wiggle room." We like options, fine print, and flexible definitions. But if you take a step back and read Scripture with fresh eyes, you notice something remarkable about how God communicates: He doesn't leave room for guesswork.
In Ephesians 4:5-6, Paul lays down a sequence of singular, absolute terms that cut straight through religious complexity:
"...one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."
Notice the word Paul repeats over and over again: one.
Not a dozen paths. Not a customizable menu of beliefs. Not a sliding scale based on human performance or opinions. Just one.
When Scripture uses absolute words like one, all, the, or nothing, it’s doing something intentional. It’s narrowing our focus. Human religion loves to complicate things—adding footnotes, extra requirements, and heavy checklists until we're exhausted. But God uses absolute language to make the Gospel simple and secure.
When Paul says there is one Lord and one faith, he isn't trying to build an exclusive country club. He’s removing the burden of us trying to figure it out on our own. We don't have to construct our own truth or try to balance a dozen competing religious ideas.
The Gospel is unburdened by human complexity. God said what He meant, meant what He said, and anchored it all in the finished work of His Son.
